Welcome...!

The Department of English believes in imparting a multicultural and multilingual dimension to the study of the global language (viz, English) and its literature.
The overall mission of the Department is to promote the study of worldwide literature written in English and extend the understanding of how the English language is intertwined with the various cultures of those who speak and write it.

One among the oldest departments in the country, the Department of English offers wide range of specializations under the credit based system. The syllabus under the credit system has integrated the conventional approach of exposing the student to period/genre based texts, literature of contemporary relevance and career based papers. The special papers offered at UG and PG levels are Women's Writing, Literary Theory and Criticism, Myth and Literature, Indian Theatre, Shakespearean Criticism, European Classics in Translation, ELT and Eco-literature..

A host of extra-curricular and co-curricular activities give the students a platform to showcase their talents in varied spheres. The eco-walk, as part of the paper on Ecoliterature, showcases the rich flora and fauna in campus. Cornucopia, the students' biannual, showcases their myriad talents in a host of variegated genres. Akara, the annual literary and cultural fest of The English Association, aka TEA, gets together talent from across the state who sweat it out to get the overall championships.

The PG & Research Department of English flourished academically and even otherwise under the illustrious leadership of Dr.Felix Moses, whose tenure was the golden epoch in the annals of the Department. He revolutionized the syllabus structure of the General English programme by including the need-based functional English modules in its framework. The celebrated peer-reviewed biannual journal Eclectic Representations is a feather in the cap of the department, thanks to his vision and commitment which has contributed to the nurture of the journal to its present popularity amongst literary journals worldwide.
